Dixieland Jazz at its Finest!
The Dixie Cats started as an idea our sax player, Richard “Hollywood” Thompson had; let’s get together a band to perform the early New Orleans Dixieland jazz style and bring that to North Florida. The core Dixie Cats consist of Ron Palmer on drums, Richard on tenor sax and clarinet, Howard Arner on Keys and Vocals, Eric Arndt on guitar, banjo and Vocals, Jill Sherrod on trombone, Greg Lake on upright bass, and George Eckenrode on trumpet.
The Dixie Cats are also available as a five-piece band and in that configuration, we cover more classic 50s, 60s and 70s songs, classic blues, jazz and, of course, dixieland.
The Cats mix classic real book jazz, the stuff you remember like Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Mel Torme, Bobby Darin, Sammy Davis Junior along with styles like Bossa Nova and early New Orleans style jazz stirred with some popular tunes like Just the Two of Us or Dock of the Bay to give a really eclectic show.
